The list below is not exhaustive. I’ll add as I remember.

Internet

I mean…*glances at the name of the blog*

My favourite is a prepaid sim card…from Singapore. Be sure that the SIM card gets coverage whereever you are travelling to.

Useful Apps

  • Google Sheets and Google Drive – For all my travel planning, and quick pulling out of documents
  • Calculator / or the rough estimation of the currency rate in your brain.
  • Splitwise – Particularly useful if you are going with your buddy and everyone’s gonna owe each other money.

Things to bring

Stationery

  • Notebook
  • Pen in every bag
  • Marker / sharpie
  • Easy tear clear tape – not just to keep things together, but for sealing up liquids like perfume etc. Just bring it.

Medicine Kit

  • Fever medication – my go-to is Panadol Extra
  • Cold medication – my go-to is Zyrtec and Vicks
  • Diarrhea medication – my go-to is charcoal pill or Dhamotil
  • Anti-acid / gastric medicine – I like the ones from Guardian. Peppermint essential oil and Balsem Lang / Eagle balm make great alternatives (ngl, I pack them all)
  • Eyedrops – pack those mini disposable ones. Never underestimate the need for eyedrops.
  • Anti-bacterial wipes – I double up as face wipes as well ( I know I shouldn’t…)
  • Lysol or Dettol disinfectant spray – Ever since covid, I always have one of these to spray myself and everywhere

Electrical / Electronic items

  • Portable power banks (I use one with in-built usb c / mini usb cables cos that’s two less cables)
  • Cables
  • At least one charger head
  • Travel adapter (as needed)

Toiletries

  • Nail clippers – especially if you are travelling for at least 3-4 days.
  • Toilet paper roll – this is my preference, since it’s cheaper than towelettes or boxes of tissue so you can leave it behind when you are checking out.

Consumables

  • Bottled water – this has become somewhat of a ritual for me. I’d bring at least 1 litre worth of water – for when you reach hotel late at night and you just need a hot cuppa, or if you’ve reached the airport after a long flight – the air is pretty dry in the plane cabin and stuff.

Misc

  • Airlock(?) bag – I’m not sure what you call these exactly, but it’s the type which after you lock the bag, you can squeeze air somehow. It will compact your stuff, especially clothes. Kind of better than the rolling tip?
  • Extra ziplock bags – I usually use one to store my important documents like hotel reservations, stationery etc.
  • Safety pins – especially for ladies
