Seoulcation Day 9 – Free day

Day 9 was a free day.

The sky was a tad overcast, so we were a bit concerned. Thankfully it didn’t rain (so much?) and we were mostly indoors. Our itinerary for the day was the I Seoul U installation at Seoul Plaza, and the Seoul Sky (Lotte World Tower).

These were two places I didn’t have the opportunity to visit during my first trip to Seoul in 2018.

I spotted the I Seoul U installation while on the way back to our hotel on a winding bus trip from Namsan Tower. Actually, until I spotted it, it never occurred to me to try and find the installation for this trip. I did attempt to try find it in the 2018 trip, but it was a really packed itinerary then.

The nearest station is the City Hall station on subway line 1 and 2. Even so, I felt that I had to walk for a really long time after exiting the gantry (hmm…).

The Seoul Plaza area has the Singapore CBD (financial district) vibes, with densely packed buildings towering over pedestrians in office clothes. I think it was about lunch time when we reached the area.

From City Hall station, we headed to Jamsil station on Line 2. This train crosses over the river, so it was quite an exciting experience for Singaporeans ^^;; (we have a mix of overhead trains but mostly our trains are underground).

Seoul Sky’s general ticket costs 27,000 won for adults and 24,000 won for children. While queuing to purchase the tickets, we realised that KK Day was offering vouchers for slightly cheaper – around SGD 21. We had time to purchase vouchers while in the queue and flashed the voucher to redeem the tickets ^^ (thank you internet).

Before going up, visitors will go through an exhibition area, including a couple of photo zones. I suppose ordinarily, the queue would have been really long, so the exhibits serve as a form of distraction to pass time.

The lift goes up to level 121, if memory serves me right. Visitors watch a short clip before panels open to show up the view of Seoul. The tickets allowed visitors to a couple of levels. There is a small cafΓ© for visitors to grab a snack while enjoying the view. There is also a souvenir shop, where visitors can buy souvenirs and collect the photos taken at the photo zone.

A couple of particularly notable activities are the glass floor which shows the drop to the road (!!!) and sky bridge tour where visitors walk on a bridge suspended between the two structures at the top of the tower. The latter was easily a pass for me.

It offers vouchers for a range of activities, usually at a slight discount. The activities are not just limited to South Korea, and available for some other Asian countries as well.
