The hot night transitioned into a rainy morning. But too quickly, the day became hotter…
We started our transit to Ha Long Bay early, with the bus transfer picking us up at at 9.30am ish, and reached port around 12, where we transferred to the cruise ship via a bumboat.
This was the first time we went on such a cruise and we were intrigued by the bumboat tagging along the bigger ship at the back.
The cruise we chose was the Sapphire Cruise, which costs around S$500 for 3 people.
I’ve never been to a cruise before, and did not know what to expect.
The room completely wowed me, with almost ceiling to floor glass, showing the bay in its majesty. Shortly after checking in our bags, lunch was served.
It had impressive plating – or maybe I’m just easily impressed!
There were activities for both days of our trip. Day one consisted of kayaking, swimming (I needed a life-jacket hah), wine-tasting and squid fishing. The dining hall was also open to music and dancing (no takers) after dinner (another impressive plated course).
After dinner, we spent the night on the deck watching the sky as the boat floated on the bay. Around us, similar cruise ships were anchored amongst the limestone mountains.
Day 4 ended as the sky grew clouded darkening the night a little more deeper.
Tip: take any bottled water that is offered and bring some bottled water of your own. The cruise offered one bottled water per person but everything else was chargeable.
Bonus tip: There is no Internet. Just you, the sky, the limestone and the sea. π
