Some people say that Georgetown is Penang.
And what is a trip to Penang without going through this UNESCO site? (Well, we were staying in it anyway.)
After lunch break, we had a quick drive around Georgetown, stopping at a few select places.
Places we passed by were
- Fort Cornwallis
- Jubilee clock tower – The driver said that this clock tower was gifted by the British queen for Penang’s jubilee celebration, so I asked him how was it gifted. Was it shipped over? I think he was stunned for a moment, perhaps at the absurdity of my question.
- Kapitan Keling Mosque (stopped)
- Pinang Peranakan Mansion
- Gerak budaya bookshop (stopped)
- The more famous street arts (stopped)
Tip: to fully immerse in the Georgetown experience, you can rent a manned beca (trishaw), group cycle (a picture of it below) or a bicycle.

This was followed by dinner break at 1st Avenue, a newly opened shopping mall across the street from Komtar.
At this point of time, we were quite tired, though still hanging on!
The driver actually recommended us to rest at our hotel room and that he would fetch us an hour later. But since we had to have dinner anyway, why not just stop at the mall?
We summon a bit more energy to walk around this mall, which was quite a reminisce of any other shopping malls in Singapore. No photos here, but you can check out the mall at their official website here.
